Uhura Flashes Her Hoo-Hoo

By Chance

January 08, 2009 at 6:00AM EDT

I was toy shopping online today, because…you know…it’s a day of the week, and I’m breathing. I don’t usually check out the Star Trek toys, because…you know…Star Trek is stupid. But the retro line of figures from Diamond Select Toys caught my eye, because I grew up coveting Mego dolls and have always toyed with the idea of collecting them. (Ha ha, toyed.) Anyway, I clicked on the thumbnail and—OH MY GOD—is Uhura flashing her yoohoora at that Oompa Loompa alien thing?

Wait. Is she wearing a tunic and pants? Has she always worn a tunic and pants? I decided to investigate. Clearly, this took precedence over any work I needed to do. So I Googled images of the enchanting communications officer, and after wading through a galaxy of erotic fan art, I found this:

I like her attitude in this shot. It’s as if she just saw the doll in question and can’t believe she’s flashing her situation to the whole universe. In this photo, it appears she’s wearing hosiery of some kind, but not tights or leggings. Plus, she clearly has the modesty to cover her troublesome Tribble. So I think the toy version of Ms. Uhura is definitely hiking her skirt to invite Mr. Alien to go where no alien has gone before. But I’d be concerned about that thing on his head if I were you, Uhura. Yikes!

the strangely orange alien with the yarn tunic is supposed to be a Mugato.  An alien with a poisonous bite/claw/horn attack.  The near indestructable Captain Kirk got bit/clawed/gored by it in one episode.  and then the poor thing got phasered out of the episode.  BZZZZT!

And as for the whole cybernetic nutters in giant cubes that race around the galaxy trying to assimilate the galaxy . . . yeah, that was around in the 60’s.  Except they were called Cybermen.

Oo…I wish I had an evil twin from a parallel universe. I could get so much more accomplished in a day. Well, half of it would be evil, but still.

I’m starting to wonder… it probably is not even Chance that’s posting.  It’s probably his evil parallel from the Mirror Universe who serves Nerys, the Intendant!  He probably doesn’t have the required goatee… unlike “our” Chance.

Okay! I will apologize. I’m sorry you like stupid Star Trek

Just kidding. I spent all day on megomuseum.com and realized that I had the Mego Farah Fawcett and Cher when I was a kid. Actually, they were my sister’s. But she never played with them, so I swiped them. So I have no room to make fun of anyone. I wish I still had those things. I might have to make a trip to eBay now.

    “You’re not acting HARD ENOUGH!”

So then you know that people who hate Star Trek have to stay longer!

  • Chance 01/08/2009 07:41 pm

No, but I remember her fan dance from Futurama. She used it to seduce and overpower Fry. And I think I’ve done enough conventions to know how to spell “Melllvar.”

Hey!  Star Trek is not stupid!  mad  You, Sir, are toying with a Civil War on the FBOTU site!  Just because we have giant cubes filled with cybernetic humanoids hell-bent on assimilating the universe does not make us stupid.  Don’t get me started on that silly telephone booth thing!

(However, I will acknowledge that the Oompa-Loompa-alien-thing is pure crap! It looks like he’s wearing the Wizard of Oz’s Scarecrow’s costume.  And Uhura is a known total cock tease.  Remember her “Shady Pines Fan Dance” from “The Final Frontier”? http://www.jabootu.com/images/stfan.jpg)

Megos were infamous for covering up skin with suits colored in the appropriate flesh-tone. Wonder Woman and Tarzan are notable examples… although somehow, Conan got away with just the loincloth. Weird.

Anyway, Uhura got that treatment too back in the day, so I would guess that Diamond followed suit to keep it as retro as possible.

“Ah, Ma.  I can still hear you calling to me from this window.  ‘Dorothy, pull down your skirt!  The whole neighborhood can see your business!’”
    —Dorothy on The Golden Girls

I never got the mini-skirts in the original series.  Well, I got WHY they were put on the air, but from a totally functional standpoint, they never made sense to me.  It’s like the film Queen Of Outer Space, when astronauts crash land on Venus and find a race of man-hating women…who wear mini-skirts, go-go boots, and WAY too much make-up.  You’d think if they truly hated men, they wouldn’t dress to please them and would instead be in slacks and combat boots.

We may have evolved as a society in the 23rd century, but we will never abandon the need for intergalatic whoopie.
