I’m very pleased to announce our latest literary selection is The German, a thrilling, supermatural mystery written by Lambda Literary Award- and Bram Stoker Award-winning author Lee Thomas (In the Closet, Under the Bed, The Dust of Wonderland)! You have until Thursday, September 6 to procure and read the book, then we’ll start discussing it. I know school is starting, and there’s a US holiday in there, as well, but the book is under 300 pages—and it’s a real page turner. You won’t be able to put it down once you start! You can get the book online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and TLA Books. You can also check your local bookstores and libraries (or inter-library loan programs).
About the Book
At the height of World War II, a mysterious killer preys on the young men of a quiet Texas town. The murders are calculated, vicious, and they are just beginning. Sheriff Tom Rabbit is baffled, and the community he serves is terrified of the monster stalking their streets. The only clues the killer leaves behind are notes written in German. As the panic builds, all eyes turn toward a quiet man with dark and disturbing secrets of his own. Ernst Lang fled Germany in 1934. Once a brute, a soldier and a leader of the Nazi party, he has since renounced aggression and embraces a peaceful obscurity. But Lang is haunted by an impossible past. He remembers his own execution and the extremes of sex and violence that led to it. He remembers the men he led into battle, the men he seduced, and the men who betrayed him. But are these the memories of a man given a second chance at life, or the delusions of a killer?
The German was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel and won the Lambda Literary Award for Best LGBT Speculative Fiction.
