20 Fanboy Questions with Sean-Z
Boxers, briefs or commando?
Occasionally boxer briefs, but mostly commando. I prefer comfort, ease and accessibility.
DC or Marvel?
It’s a toss-up between the two for me really. Depends on the story and characters involved. That said, I tend to be more a DC man these days.
Last movie you stood in line to see?
The last movie I recall standing in line for was Daybreakers earlier in the year, and that movie—while spinning a great concept initially—wound up being woefully disappointing overall. I am really looking forward to Tron Legacy.
Video game you’ve spent the most hours playing?
I go through gaming rotation regularly, so it changes based on what I’m in the mood for. Lately, I’ve been dividing my game time between the City of Heroes MMO and Mass Effect 1 & 2.
Most played song on your iPod?
I listen to a lot of different kinds of music, especially when I’m working. And what I listen to is motivated purely by what I’m drawing or the kind of atmosphere I want to evoke creatively while doing so. That being said, as I’m working on my latest volume of MYTH, I find myself listening to a lot of Evanescence and Samantha James.
Movie line you quote the most?
“Try not. Do or do not, there is no try.” - Yoda, from The Empire Strikes Back. It’s my own personal mantra, especially when my fears and anxieties threaten to challenge me.
Wolverine famously said: “I’m the best there is at what I do. But what I do best isn’t very nice.” What are you best at?
Expressing and exercising my imagination out loud.
Favorite geek-out activity?
Online gaming. It really allows me to create a level of immersion for myself that’s very reminiscent of my tabletop RPG gaming days way back when. More so if I’m inspired by the lore presented within it. Geek-gasms for hours and hours. LOL!
If you could have a complete collection of any toy line in history, what would it be?
This might sound a little like a shameless plug, but I’d really love anatomically correct versions of all my characters in my MYTH-verse. Among the highest form of flattery for me creatively speaking and would make me gush all kinds of giddy.
What’s something about you that no one would suspect?
I can’t swim. Since I was 4 years old, I’ve had this deep-rooted fear—like a lifelong gut feeling that I’m going to die by drowning. But I am working towards getting over this fear (I’ve stood in the ocean, recently). I feel it’s keeping me from exploring joys that can be found aquatically.
Best comic book title right now?
Let’s see…four letters…starts with an “M”...
Which previous Fanboy of the Month would you ask on a date?
You mean I can only choose one to ask??? I love the variety of geekery and charisma found among the previous FBOTMs. I am also an incorrigible flirt, and like to experience the kinds of playful synergy that can often show up as a result. What I would or wouldn’t do would depend entirely on the openness of the person(s) and the moment.
What’s your dream cross-over event?
Naked Jello wrestling between the men of Marvel vs. the men of DC…now…in 3D.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done to impress a guy?
Started taking my clothes off for this guy, so he could photograph me for his website—oh, wait…
Favorite Comic-Con memory?
The last San Diego Comic-Con, because there were so many factors that weighed heavily on me at the time as to whether or not I’d continue on the path of creating comics. Everything that happened before, during and after that con reaffirmed my decision to stick with what I’m incredibly passionate about: creating comic books that I’m both happy with and proud of.
What do you value most in your friends?
Integrity, honesty, sense of self, humor, respect and empathy.
Action figues: mint on card or rip it open?
Well, duh. Toys are meant to be played with.
What advice or words of wisdom would you give the 16-year-old version of yourself?
The first thing I would do is give the 16-year-old me a great big hug and tell him that life isn’t all about being so serious, that he’s a whole and beautiful person just the way he is. And that laughing and loving yourself first is the key to everything that equals happy.
Favorite holiday movie or special?
A tie-between Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Why did you want to be a Fanboy of the Month?
Willful spontaneity and curiosity to try on my “exhibitionist hat,” mixed with a deep love and appreciation for what you do and stand for with this amazing site.
Bonus Question
Which Star Wars quote best describes your last sexual encounter:
“You’re all clear, kid! Now let’s blow this thing and go home!”
“Look at the *size* of that thing!”
“There is good in him. I’ve felt it.”
“I look forward to completing your training. In time, you will call me master.”
“I thought that hairy beast would be the end of me.”
“Control, control…you must learn control.”
“Put that thing away before you get us all killed!”
How about: “You’ll find I’m full of surprises.” That would be the most appropriate one given that my sexual experiences tend to be full of welcomed ones.
