Last week, a 17-year-old boy in Australia sent a Twitter message to Neil Patrick Harris, asking him for advice. In a series of Tweets, he wrote:

“hey do you have any advice for someone coming out as gay? my family wouldnt understand and im a musician in australia, so theyve been pretty proud of me so far. I’m nearly 18, i know im young i dont know who to go to everyone i seem to know is either fake or full of shit and i admire you so much that i thought i’d ask you.”

That’s some pretty heavy stuff to send off via Twitter to a Hollywood actor who may or may not even respond. Luckily, and to his credit, NPH did respond. He wrote:

“No trouble at all, actually. Those who aren’t understanding have more to learn. Stand tall. Be proud of who you are. Don’t break promises. Want to learn. Represent well. But more than anything, be safe.”

And there you have our Quote of the Week and words to inspire a generation. Well done, Mr. Harris.

NPH always amazes me. Being gay doesn’t define him, it’s just who he is. It’s not a badge of honor. It’s like having black hair or a flat nose…it’s just who you are. Sometimes when you talk to people, they are stuck on one aspect of their life…I’m gay (or straight) and that’s all…We are complex.
    Good going NPH!!!
