Quote of the Week: Real Gay

By Chance

May 31, 2010 at 12:01AM EDT

Sometimes, when I’m feeling particularly old and cantankerous, I like to lecture gay kids of today on how good they have it. What with their internets and iPads and equal rights in 5 out of 50 states (plus Washington, DC). So I was very pleased to have a recent episode of Family Guy sum it all up for me in their typically crude and ruthless fashion. For your consideration:

Grandpa: We used to give each other “wet willies” and “funny arms.” We played “dandy balls” and “legs are spread” and “penis butt.”
Sonny: Sounds kind of gay, grandpa.
Grandpa: It was gay! Everyone was. But back then we were called “pole fanciers.” It was real, good, old-fashioned “grab the nearest tree and hold on for dear life” gay. Not today’s fancy “featherbed thread count” gay. People got hurt back then!
-Family Guy, “April in Quahog”

I couldn’t have said it better myself!
