Quote of the Week: Here’s Johnny

By Chance

February 21, 2010 at 4:29AM EDT

Johnny Weir was robbed. You know it. I know it. Even milquetoast Scott Hamilton knows it. The big story to be packaged and sold for these games was the testosterone-soaked pissing match between Evan Lysacek and Evgeny Pleshenko. Johnny’s amazing performance just got shuffled aside in the melee. But we’re honoring him here at FBOTU with our Quote of the Week:

“The results are something I can’t control, so I can’t say ‘damnit, I didn’t place in the top three today.’ I can’t control any of that. I just skate. And my goal was to show my heart, to take them on a journey with me, so they can feel me.’‘
-Johnny Weir

Thankfully, you can’t keep a good Johnny down. Watch him answer fan questions in this fabulous interview. And if you missed his free skate performance, be sure to watch it here.

Finally, Johnny has said he’s not planning on reprising his Poker Face routine for the exhibition show at the close of the games. I’m sure whatever he has worked up will be fabulous. In the meantime, here’s his tribute to Lady Gaga:

WOW, amazing, the skill, balance, and strength…simply amazing!

I didn’t watch any of the Olympics, but I after seeing this, all I can keep thinking of is the word “Nureyev.”  Seriously, anybody who thinks that figure staking is not a sport needs to STFU and watch this.  This takes way more athleticism and physical coordination than any football player could dream of.

Loved his performance.  Mr. Weir only became known to me because of these Olympics.  I am now a fan.  I’m not sure he was better than Evan, but he certainly deserved a medal, imo.
