At the risk of sounding even more narcissistic than usual, I quite enjoy the Quote of the Week feature here at FBOTU, even though sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night in a panic because I forgot to choose one for the week. Being a pop culture whore, my vocabulary is riddled with quotations from everything from Christopher Marlowe to Tiny Toon Adventures. It’s a curse. Having said that, not a single day goes by that I don’t quote the ruthless teen satire Heathers. It’s kind of shocking that I’ve never submitted a Heathers quote for Quote of the Week. Since every line in the movie is a gem, I don’t think I’ve ever been able to narrow it down to just one. There are so many. From “you’re beautiful” to “brain tumor for breakfast,” I could go line by line. So, you might be surprised that our very first Heathers quote is not as flashy as some others I could have chosen. But I present it here for your enjoyment, because I’ve been saying, “Praise Jesus, hallelujah!” non-stop for a couple of days now, which is admittedly a highly unusual practice for an atheist.
And when it comes to the Quote of the Week, practical application of the quote is everything. So, the next time a particularly thorny thorn in your side goes away, and you didn’t really have to do anything about it, think of Heather Duke. And Shannen Doherty. And me.
