I’d sort of forgotten about DC’s latest animated movie until Ian Sattler mentioned it in last week’s DC Nation. Batman: Under the Red Hood comes out on DVD on July 27, which is the standard post-Comic-Con release date for these things. I’ll just assume there will be a screening at Comic-Con, but since I lost my contact at DC, my days in the VIP section are sadly over. But I’m more than willing to stand in line with the masses, because I’m really looking forward to this film. I’ve always been fascinated by the Batman and his endless stream of acrobatic wards. I suppose I’ve always wanted some dark and brooding rich guy to take me home with him and teach me how to fight crime…in tights. Equally fascinating to me is the whole Jason Todd mythos. The symbol of Bruce Wayne‘s failure and Dick Grayson‘s superiority, he has become the perfect emotional thorn in everyone’s side.
Written by Judd Winick and directed by Brandon Vietti (Brave and the Bold), Under the Red Hood sees Batman facing his ultimate challenge, as a mysterious vigilante called Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham, using lethal force along the way. Who could possibly be under the red hood? I hope it’s Alfred. Now, check out this cast. Bruce Greedwood (Star Trek) is voicing Batman this time around, and Supernatural super stud Jensen Ackles is Red Hood. I’m a little concerned that John “Bender” DiMaggio is playing the Joker, but only because it’s hard to lose that distinctive DiMaggio growl in his character work. It’ll be a big stretch for him, I think. And no stretch at all will be hearing Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) as Ra’s al Ghul. That’s kind of brilliant. When Jason is finished with Lucius Malfoy, he could make a career out of playing Ra’s. Finally, everyone’s favorite gay poster boy, Neil Patrick Harris, is voicing none other than the Dickmeister himself, Nightwing (naturally). From the clips on YouTube, he seems to be the comic relief in the piece, but I hope they don’t make him too much of a clown. I’d love to see Nightwing get his own movie, with NPH along for the ride.

It looks interesting but Bruce Greedwood’s voice just doesn’t fit the character but then again I think there’s really only one person that does and that’s Kevin Conroy the man IS Batman and it’s just undeniable… at least in my opinion, hahaha.
Bruce just sounds like he’s trying too hard to be Rorschach and honestly if they were looking for that darker raspier voice they should have just gone with Jackie Early Haley…
I’m definitely psyched about NPH aside from Batman himself Nightwing is definitely the hottest of the Bat Family! I’m pretty sure Gavin from back in October proves just that hahaha
