On the 9th Day of Geekmas, My True Love Gave to Me… Justin Hall’s Glamazonia: The Uncanny Super-Tranny
The 411
I think I can safely say that Glamazonia is the best gender-bending satirical graphic novel about a trans superhero I’ve read this holiday season! (I’ll let you know if that changes.) This super-sized book collects (and colorizes) many of Justin Hall’s previous Glamazonia adventures, including the beloved origin stories. In addition to the old favorites, you’ll also find brand new adventures, as well as collaborations between Hall and a “who’s who” of LGBTQ artists and creators. Every fabulous page will have you laughing, gasping or shaking your head in disbelief. Hall expands his Glama-verse in such a consistent and clever way, it’s not hard to imagine the adventures of Glamazonia continuing for years to come.
X-Mas Karma
There’s so much good here, so take your pick. You’re supporting an indie queer artist, as well as a brand new indie queer publisher. As a gift, Glamazonia makes quite an impact. Plus, it works on so many levels. It’s bawdy and silly and fun, of course, but it’s also a sharp and knowing satire of both the gay community AND comic book mythology. So it makes the perfect gift for both gays and gay comic book geeks alike. (And order an extra one for grandma, too!)
Justin Hall’s Glamazonia: The Uncanny Super-Tranny is available for $24.99 at Northwest Press. You can also ask your local comic book store to order it for you. Enjoy!
