Project Runway got me to appreciate fashion as the fine art it truly is. Though I have no aspirations of ever being a clothing designer, I was still inspired by the process and personalities on display in the show. So when it came time to write BuFu's back story, I decided my newfound interest in fashion might be best explored through him. This page is from a short story in Wuvable Oaf #0, detailing BuFu's audition for my own rip-off of Project Runway, a show titled Assignment: Catwalk. Naturally, I'm most interested in the humorous side of the series, as evidenced by my very thinly veiled doppelgangers of Nina Garcia, Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum. And one of my favorite contestants of all time, Austin Scarlett, is embodied by BuFu's competition and best pal, Dallas Vermillion. As much as I enjoy drawing hirsute brutes, Dallas's delicate, spritely features are a welcome break from all the round shapes and cross-hatching.
BuFu's future story arc will include flashbacks from his time on Assignment: Catwalk, which didn't go very well at all. But as readers of Gory Details have discovered, both Dallas and Sundae Goyle will ultimately become a part of BuFu's extended cast.
