Okay, so I have to ask if there are any X-Tina fans here? What’s your favorite song of hers?
Can’t wait for her next album. She’s been working on it since March of this year in her own home recording studio (They live in Ozzy Osbourne’s old house), and it’s already been confirmed that DJ Premier will be producing 5 tracks on the album.
There’s also some speculation that Linda Perry is involved as well, ‘cause she’s been spotted with Christina leaving the studio. I’m getting a bit tired of Linda though.
I was never a big fan until her latest album, “Back To Basics.” I like her voice, and I like the fact that she pretty much does what she wants, even if it results in stuff like “Dirrty.” I’d have to say my favorite track by her is “Candyman”, and while I like “Hurt” and “Beautiful”, I much prefer them in specific remixes. For example, the “Valentine Club Mix” of “Beautiful” and the “Electro” mix of “Hurt” take out a lot of the vocal histrionics that can sometimes overwhelm the piece.

Oh man, I’m such a sucker for the out-of-control vocal runs, screeches and growls, but I can see where it could get/be annoying to a lot of people. I can’t explain it exactly, but I get a major rush when Christina’s all aggressive. Love hearing her live performances.
But yeah, sometimes she has a tendency to overpower songs and over sing, but I feel like a lot of that is personal choice, her personality coming through, musical roots etc., as opposed to being incapable of toning it down. There have been some songs where she’s held back vocally (Save Me From Myself), and I can tell that she’s making an effort to mix in some songs like that.
Actually, if certain rumors turn out to be true, you may get a kick of her next album. It’s supposed to be a ‘pop album’, which isn’t a very specific description (there’s a lot of different type of pop), but some are saying she might be going for a Goldfrapp type of sound. —Mainly ‘cause she’s been playing her music lately (Just before making an album, Christina’s been known to research a lot and ‘get into character’) and said she wanted to go for a futuristic type of sound on the next album.
Anyhow, to go off on a tangent, I very much miss Christina’s DIRRTY period. hehe
I’m assuming this is “Black Cherry”/“Supernature” Goldfrapp and not “Felt Mountain”/“Seventh Tree” Goldfrapp (yes, I love Goldfrapp and own all their albums and most of their remixes). While I think the idea of Christina doing a retro-future glam-sleaze pop album is intriguing, I don’t know how well her vocal style would mix with that. Alison Goldfrapp and Christina have wildly different vocal approaches. I will give Christina this, though: she’s never been afraid to do her own thing. When Britney was adamantly denying that she was the bad girl she appeared to be in “Slave 4 U”, Christina basically said “Yeah, I like to dress like this, you got a problem with that?”
I was never really a huge fan of hers until I heard her voice in Back to Basics. Way hot! It’s like something in me said, “Why the hell haven’t you been following her?” Looking back, I’ve started comparing and now feel that she’s way more talented than Britney. I liked her voice in “Save Me From Myself” and “Makes Me Wanna Pray.” I can immerse myself in her voice!
So in Glamour Magazine Christina talks a bit about her upcoming album:
GLAMOUR: Let’s talk about your new album: Can we expect to see you reinvent yourself as you did for Back to Basics?
CA: I just started recording it, but I can tell you that this record is all about fun. I’ll be referencing Pop Art, Andy Warhol’s art. So it will [sound] fun and fast-paced, and visually, it will be full of color, which is how it’s going to tie in with my new fragrance, Inspire [in stores next month].
GLAMOUR: So Warhol, Pop Art—will it have a sixties sound to it?
CA: I want it to be a surprise! But there’s also going to be a modern element to it that comes from my love of Tokyo.
I’m just wondering what this modern Tokyo element could be. I know she lived there as a kid for awhile and it’s her favorite city to visit. Hmmm. She’s mentioned that she likes to load up on video games and knick knacks/toys while she’s there, so maybe it’ll have a videogamish vibe.

It’s gotta be better than that stuff Gwen Stefani does. Gwen! Be humane! Let the Harajuku Girls back into the wild! They’re not meant to be kept as pets.

Christina and Gwen are actually very close friends, so I’m seriously hoping she’s not getting some of the inspiration from her.
On a side note, Gwen’s “Cool” was originally written for Christina.
Wow…she really is going for the Alison Goldfrapp disco-glam-sleaze thing, huh? It suits her. I mean, somebody has to do it now that Alison has gone all trip-hoppy on us again (not that I mind). And naked men? Total bonus.
