Gag me with a spoon. What a coward. And what a nice sentiment to his brother: “I don’t want anyone to think I’m like you.”
From IMDB:
Fantastic Four star Chris Evans is forced to avoid nights out with his gay brother - in case the press begin to speculate about his own sexuality. The actor’s younger brother, Scott, is openly homosexual, and often asks the star to join him on outings to gay bars.
But Evans admits he is forced to decline the invitations, because he fears a photograph of him at a gay club would spark rumors which would haunt him forever. He says, “I’m down with the gays. Mostly I’m hanging out with (my brother) and his gay buddies, who are f**king hilarious. They’re the funniest people I know. They’ve invited me out to gay bars before, and I said, ‘Look, guys, I’ve got to draw the line there.’ That’s where a photo will get taken, it will run in magazines, and before you know it, I’ll be living down the gay rumor for the rest of my life.”
I saw that, too. I didn’t react quite the same way. A gay rumour could literally destroy Chris Evans’ career in Hollywood. I don’t think we’ve reached the point where a young, handsome man can be openly gay AND a major box office draw. People like Neil Patrick Harris are isolated examples (and he’s not a movie actor the way Evans is). Even if he really ISN’T gay, the whispers may seriously derail his career.
And to be fair, I don’t like be seeing in most gay bars, either.
Aigh! Why won’t he be quiet? Today’s insight on homosexuality by the Human Torch:
Fantastic Four star Chris Evans has come out in support of gay marriage - insisting it is “appalling” for homosexuals in America to be denied the right to wed. Evans, whose younger brother, Scott, is openly gay, is convinced that U.S. politicians will eventually step in and change the country’s laws regarding same-sex unions.
He says, “It’s mindboggling and appalling that human beings are being denied civil rights in this country. But time will heal all. I have to believe that in 10 years we won’t be having this conversation. We’ll be having another one, because we’ll always find someone to persecute.”
...I’ll be living down the gay rumor for the rest of my life.
To ‘live down’ something generally means it’s shameful, but not necessarily incorrect. Poor word choice there from several angles.
Additionally, I’m not seeing why, if he’s making such an open statement about hanging out with his bro and his bro’s friends, that the locale would really add that much drama to it. I mean, obviously the paparazzi can get pics of him hanging out with gay men anyway. Really, he could have fun with it if he weren’t so afraid of being labeled. “Yep, that’s me in a gay bar. That guy next to me? That’s my brother’s boyfriend. Awesome guy. Too bad nobody bothered to make a big deal out of the barbecue at my place last week, where I was also having a good time with my friends and family. And hey, where are the pics of us at the straight bar we went to earlier in the evening?”
I’m not seeing the problem with the second comment you posted, Chance.

Sorry, I didn’t really offer any explanation. I was just annoyed that he followed up his “I can’t be seen with those people” comment with the “Isn’t it awful how they’re persecuted?” comment and didn’t see the irony/connection between the two. So…piss off, Chris Evans, ya wanker.
Having a bloke who could be in the middle of “rear bumper pokage”, shouts “Flame On!” and fires (pun intended) would basically be napalm would not be conducive for a good evening’s entertainment… talk about yer “ring of fire”...
What? He’s not *actually* The Human Torch? Then away with him, I’ll go back to watching Brandon Routh.

That is all.
CHANCE
I just thought it made him come off like the next choice for Miss Teen South Carolina.
And what a nice sentiment to his brother: “I don’t want anyone to think I’m like you.”
The excerpt in question is from an interview with Brandon Voss for The Advocate:
I don’t want anyone to think I’m you . . . [My brother looks like me], but he’s about an inch taller and about four shades tanner than I am. He’s a very fit young man. Believe me, he does quite well for himself.”
