From past examples, something that really seems to help bond small communities together on other forums are picture pages!
Its like a getting to know you thread. Everyone (who wants to) posts a pic of themselves so we know what who we’re talking to looks like.

Some of you guys obviously have a pic as your avatar, which is cool.
I’ll get the ball rolling with a jokey picture..
