I recently posted a review of the new Madonna CD. Here’s another review I wrote up yesterday on my blog for a new CD that I think you should all listen to:
Arist: Robyn
Album:Robyn Rating: 9 out of 10
Robyn made her debut in the United States in 1997 with a pair of Top 10 teen pop singles. Creative differences with her label led to her subsequent efforts being released only in Europe, and in some cases only in her native Sweden. When Robyn delivered an electro-heavy song to her unresponsive label, she launched her own company and put out Robyn in Europe. Finally being released state-side, it’s one of the best pop albums to be released in a long while.
From the playful electro-rap of “Konnichiwa Bitches” to the kinetic pop of “Be Mine” and the sweeping synth-and-string dance ballad “With Every Heartbeat”, Robyn is a collection of fantastic songs anchored by a consistent production, Robyn’s amiable voice, and lyrics that are both confident and vulnerable at once. This is the most obvious in the track “Who’s That Girl”, a defiant New Wave-tinged anthem and the song that inspired Robyn to break away from her label in the first place. It’s the best song Pink never recorded, which makes it all the stranger why anyone would think it would not be well-received by a modern pop audience.
Robyn obviously enjoys her new freedom, and it shows in the dynamic, exuberant arrangements and strong connection she seems to have with the music. Indeed, there are very few low parts to this album, perhaps the only track not worth keeping in an MP3 playlist being the bonus remix of “Handle Me” featured on the American release, which seems completely unnecessary given the quirky-but-catchy nature of the original.
A mature yet eclectic group of solid, enthusiastic songs, Robyn is a must-have for anyone into fresh, genuine pop music. 9 out of 10.
I saw Robin a few months ago in concert she was amazing..her album is one of my favorite of 2008, althugh it was released in her home country in 2004.
I also reviewed her album and concert on my mypace page.
We tend to get the really good stuff pretty late. One of my all-time favorite musical groups, Sunscreem, released their album Change Or Die in the UK back in 1996, but we didn’t get it here until about two years later, and it’s probably the best thing they’ve ever done. Kleerup, who worked with Robyn on “Every Heartbeat” also has what I’ve heard is a fantastic album out in Europe now...and I don’t want to wait a few more years to get it here.
What’s funny is that Robyn’s CD was released the same day as Madonna’s Hard Candy. I bought both the same day, but Robyn’s CD was by far the better album in every way.

I bought Robyn first and waited a few days to buy Madonna, I almost didn’t buy it
Robyn’s album blows away every other pop album released in the past year. Hard Candy was better then I anticipated but I hate the production and all the guest singers. I love mostly Bristish artists stuff you can’t get in North America like Kylie and Robbie Williams.
I only have a handful of Kylie tracks on my computer, mostly more recent stuff, although I think she’s pretty cool. I love “Your Disco Needs You” and “I Believe In You.” I did a burlesque number to “Can’t Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head” a few months ago, as well. “Slow” is a great song to pole dance to, as well.
Hard Candy was an amazing disappointment. There are a few really good tracks, a few horrible ones, and problems in-between. It wasn’t nearly as good as her last two albums.
And you’re right, Robyn’s album is by far the best pop album for a long time.
I have the demo to The Beat Goes On, it so much better then the final version. They took out so many lyrics for the final version and I hate the Kanye West rap.
Your Disco Needs You is my Favorite Kylie song. Her best album is Light Years which contains the track. I like her new album “X”. Her new song and video “The One” is realy cool.

Damn I didn’t think anyone else remembers her! How old is everyone in here?! LMAO
