I can’t say I’m terribly surprised. They never seemed like a good match, and she may be responsible for severely maiming his career. Swept Away was so poorly received that it didn’t even get a theatrical release in the UK, Richie’s native land. Then again, who would be a good match for Madonna? She’s so egocentric and singular, I can’t imagine any man being able to be an effective match for her.
From what I’ve read in Christopher Ciccone’s book, though, Guy Richie is a homophobic jackass of the utmost calibre, so maybe it’s for the best. He’ll make off like Heather Mills, too, with the settlement.
