Anyone watching the British teen soap Skins? I just started, and I feel a little weird about watching a bunch of kids make out and have sex, but it’s surprisingly touching and funny. The kid who plays the main lothario was the dorky kid in About a Boy. Nicholas Hoult. He’s pretty cute now, in a pale, British sort of way. (And over 18. I checked.)

i now what your saying it is weirdly touching
Have you tried being honest and telling it that weird touching is bad?
I mean, unless you like the weird touch… in which case welcome to FBOTU; you’ll fit right in.
I caught a couple of more episodes of this, and I’m still enjoying it. But…can we speak frankly here? There’s a crazy amount of spontaneous sex going on. I tried to remember back to when I was a teenager, only a few years ago (ahem), and I wasn’t having that much spontaneous sex. By spontaneous, I mean, you’re just talking to someone on the beach or in the car, and all of a sudden you start having sex.
There’s a lot of just “sticking it in” going on with seemingly no lubrication and no protection. Maybe I’m alone in this, but I usually try to be prepared and will even plan for the possibility of spontaneous sex. Which I realize means it’s not that spontaneous. I think I can really only count a handful of times in my sexual history where I really, really had no idea I was about to have sex, then did. I’ve had one-night stands, but am pretty sure I had an inkling I was going to be having a one-night stand, so I had time to take a shower and bring along protection.
Or maybe I’m just not as spontaneous as the rest of the world.
Well, the sad fact is that most teens (and even a good portion of adults) don’t plan ahead and think about sexual matters in advance. STDs don’t get spread and teenage pregnancies don’t happen because people are thinking about consequences.
I don’t think they’re trying to say this is how it is for all teens, or this is how it should be, or anything controversial like that… but rather point out that this sort of thing does happen, and with alarming frequency. I know people who have been like the teens in that show, and some people who still are.
It’s certainly not 100% accurate or anything, but I think there is an element of truth, and sometimes the truth is disturbing.
My cable provider sadly doesnt provide BBC as a option for its programming. I have heard lots of good things about Skins though. I am moving in a couple weeks and changing to DISH network so I can finally watch it and Torchwood!

Are you moving just to get Torchwood and Skins? You are hardcore, man!
HAHA no, we tried to get DISH in our apt when we moved in here three years ago but because we lived upstairs they couldn’t do it without running a cord a mile long throughout and you had to have permission from the apt managers. Just a big headache. So now we are moving into a new house and I can finally cancel our crappy cable service and get my DISH goodness! Bravo, Oxygen and BBC at last.
It was probably too much to hope for that the new series would live up to the original. It’s a whole new cast, besides Effy, who looks and acts like she’d rather be back in the old show. I’ve only caught two episodes so far, but it feels a lot of Saved By the Bell: The New Class or Grease 2.
Has anyone gotten further in the series than I have? Does it get better?
