If you haven’t cruised over to he-man.org yet, check out King Grayskull! He was revealed at New York Comic Con this past weekend (April 19-20). He’s going to be an exclusive figure sold at San Diego Comic Con in July. According to sources, he’s the beginning of a new line of collector-quality figures.

I like his retro look and feel with the cool new points of articulation. And his fabulous hair!

MOTU is always so bitter sweet! Along with the excitement of such a fantastic new line (that looks FAR more to my personal taste than the 2002 version was) but then comes the worry of how hard they are going to be to get hold of.

I’d love to get hold of multiples for customs, but if theyre not going to be available in the UK, importing figures for customs will be a bit expensive..

But anyway, Yay!! MOTU is back, and better than ever!

I’m looking forward to the mere possibility of getting a Granamyr action figure!  He’s so freakin’ cool!  and he was in the comic called the “Dragon’s Gift,” right?

I would hope that we finally get a Queen Marlena figure of some sort. Though that would certainly make my current Randor/Duncan set-up awkward.

CHANCE

I really want a Shadow Weaver figure from She-Ra.  Maybe we’ll see her.

Weaver is a no go. She’s a Filmation character and they don’t have the rights.
They can do pretty much anything and everything from the MOTUniverse except for those who origioanlly made their first appearances in Filmation.
If she’d previously appeared in a mini comic, she’d be fair game, but as it stands, she’s one of the cooler characters that are extremely unlikely, unless Mattel buys back the rights to the Filmation library, unfortunately.

Marlena is a possibility as she appeared in the new toon, and origional mini comics..

One thought, and a way to get around it.. there were some warlocks in 2002 MOTU cartoon as part of the Horde that were very Weaver’esque. I suppose they could create a female version of those, and maybe give her a similar name. Like they did for ‘Battle Fist’

It wouldn’t be the same, and unlikely, but who knows.

Fingers crossed that Mattel get the rights for Shadow Weaver at some point.

I’m speculating that Mattel and Entertainment Rights have already struck some sort of deal on She-Ra/POP, mainly because they showed Filmation Adora up on the screen at the New York con. As far as I’m aware they can only do ‘toy line Princess Adora’  (Which pretty much amounts to She-Ra without the headress…hehe), without having to get permission from ER.

For some reason I just can’t get excited about this.  I think it’s because I got burned out so bad with the last line.  It was just too much work.  The figure looks nice and everything but I’m just kind of meh about the whole idea of collecting a line again.  I guess I’ve been more concentrating on stuff like travel here lately.

Maybe you’ll get the itch to start collecting again once we see the first PoP figure.  smile

yeah I agree.. we’ve seen one figure. Its too early to feel ‘meh’ over it.

Wait till they start showing up in the shops! I only wish I’d get to see them on the shelves smile

Mattel promised even case ratios and better distribution with this line, but I’m still very skeptical.  It seems like those two would be pretty hard to reconcile.  So, until I see the Green Goddess and He-Man side by side in Target and Toys R Us, I’m going to stand firm in the belief that Mattel totally sucks and is most likely made of some sort of concentrated evil, perhaps even somehow derived from original sin itself.

That said, the DC line they’re comparing this line to is pretty freakin’ sweet.  So the moment I see these, I’ll probably just hand over my wallet without asking questions.

The thing that concerns me a little about equal packing, is that you will probably see a Green Goddess on shelves, but won’t see He-man!
4/6 was over packing. But 1/6 may not be enough. Especially if he’s not going to be a variant in every wave.
Why they can’t go back to offering retailers solid cases of the big characters I will never understand.

Somewhat related note…

I wish Mattel would clarify what exactly they mean with the whole ‘biggest distribution ever’ bit.  I assume they’re going to be available at all the major chains, but then maybe there’s some other meaning there.

SDCC seems like a lifetime away. downer *crosses fingers there will be something in the new ToyFare*

I was wondering the same thing.  It’s not as if Wal-Mart and Kay Bee are going to want a ton of Queen Marlenas sitting on the shelves any more than they wanted a ton of He-Mans.  I wonder if they’re planning that collector club that keeps being thrown around, or maybe just direct/online marketing (and specialty shops through Diamond)?

It’s possible.  I think Mattel said they were going to talk more about the collectors club at SDCC.

My prediction is that Mattel will ask all the fans in the world to line up in an orderly fashion. Then they will take all our money and kick us in the balls.
