Olivier Messiaen - The Turangalîla-Symphonie

I think I am one of the few people who may actually not only know what an ondes-martenot is but also be oddly comforted by the sounds it produces.  Plus, I’m so much of a Futurama geek that I bought a copy of the symphony on CD just because Leela’s name is a pun on the title.

recently started listening to Caitlin Crosby’s cd Flawz. This song is great, and another on her cd, Imperfect is the new Perfect, is completely awesome.

Bringing up the flavor of our eastern fanboy cousins I have been listening to W-B-X ~Double Boiled Extreme, by
Kamiki Aya with TAKUYA.  This is the theme song for the new Kamen Rider show, Double.  Check it out. smile

The song has a great set of lyrics which this section really jumped out at me:

I can’t reach this dream alone,
If it’s with you, we can make it happen, Half and Half!
Two body and soul . . .

I’ll Ride with you and no other.
. . . In One.
When I meet the ultimate partner . . .
. . . It’ll create a miracle.

I just saw the 2001 film version of Josie And The Pussycats, so I have the soundtrack stuck in my head.  Just ignore Tara Reid and it’s pretty cool.  The vocals are pay the lead singer of Letters to Cleo (but mouthed by Rachel Leigh Cook).

If you like pop music (and it seems like most of you do), check out this video by Sun.  It’s one of the best music videos I’ve seen in a while, now that Madonna and Britney have just stopped trying.

That is pretty cool.  It sounds a lot like what Britney’s been doing, but with about ten times the conviction.  Britney’s singles, for all their catchiness, are really products of the producers.  She seems to have very little stake in them.  I think it helps that Sun’s voice is much stronger than the typical pop star’s, too.

With Britney, true, which makes that whole Australia controversy so laughable.  What did they EXPECT?  I was actually referring more to their videos, though.  Britney’s “3” video is just her dancing with backups, with only the slightest reference to the provocative theme of the song itself.  And Madonna… I consider her the greatest music video artist ever (sorry, MJ) but for the past decade or so, she seems to have given up.  Maybe because they so rarely play videos on TV anymore?  So, when I saw Sun’s video, I was like “Yes!  Finally, someone actually putting some effort into making a great video!”  Gaga of course also is continuing to making great videos.  And Sun’s video is vaguely Gaga-esque.  So good times!

The video for “3” is just kind of “Eh, whatever.”  It’s not sexy or dynamic, it’s just going through the motions like some really bad Skinemax “erotic” “thriller.”  I think there’s something about Asian artists that just kind of taps into things an American audience isn’t used to.  Koda Kumi does a lot of those kind of videos, too.

“The way I are”, by Timbaland, got hooked on it from the movie, StepUp2: The Streets.

<Side Note> Yeah the movie had a flimsy plot and characters, but it was some okay dancing sequences, and great music.  BTW the end dance outside in the rain (I call it the Rain Dance)  Does anyone know who the DJ was that mixed that amazing piece?  I can recognize atleast 6 songs he master mixed to create it but his name is not mentioned in the credits, nor was there a title to that piece (Rain Dance).

( Link to my file server for the Rain Dance music captured directly off the movie and converted into an MP3: http://www.mediafire.com/?ydety42ntl4 )
