Hey guys-

I’m putting together a FBOTU gift basket for a friend to auction off for charity at the end of the month. So, what would you put in a Fanboys of the Universe gift basket? Here’s what I’m thinking, but I’m open to suggestions:

-FBOTU T-shirt
-Selection of gay-themed comics
-DVD(s)
-Video game(s)
-Action figure(s)

What would make up a good gay fanboy starter kit?

Thanks!

Oh gosh, it’s hard to think of stuff.  Everything that crosses my mind, I’m like:  “Oh, they’ll probably think that’s dumb.”  hehe

Maybe some stickers, temporary tattoos, furry pants (or other superhero costume bits).  I dunno man.

How about a 2-month Netflix gift card?  A super hero themed T-shirts, like ones that say “Gotham City SWAT Team” or something with a Super hero logo on it.  A mug or cup also with a super hero emblem.  Notebook, I’ve seen some at general stores - with Pirates of the Carribean or something like that.  Just throwing ideas out there.

I find the best gift baskets have a nice feature item surrounded by 2-3 lesser items which, in turn,  are surrounded smaller “filler gifts” such as candies, stationery or other edibles.  Also, when creating gift baskets, use fillers (such as crumpled tissue paper)at the bottom if the basket is deeper.  That way your gift items ,when placed on top, stand out more.  As for ideas for fillers that fall into the fanboy theme, I know that there are candies and gums that have Superhero insignias and/or characters featured onthe packaging.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions! I’m going to have this put together by the end of the week, so I will post the final contents when I do. I got some comic book donations (including the whole series of So Super Duper by FBOTU friend Brian Andersen), so I think it will be something people will want to buy a raffle ticket for. (Well, I would anyway!)

Incidentally, the basket you’re helping me put together will help raise money for Food for Friends, an organization in New Orleans that provides healthy meals and other services to folks living with HIV/AIDS.

Thanks again!

Okay, here’s the mostly final list of gift basket items. It’s mostly comprised of items I could either get donated or at a discount. I still need to pick up a book or two (and maybe an autographed one, if the fanboy god and FedEx are smiling upon me).

1. Nintendo DS Lite game system
2. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for Nintendo DS
3. World of Warcraft software, plus 60-day pre-paid game card
4. Autographed copies of So Super Duper, Rainbow and Deeva and Unabashedly Billie by Brian Andersen
5. Autographed copies of Pride High by Tommy Roddy
6. DC: The New Frontier Vol. One (trade paperback)
7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight (trade paperback)
8. Wonder Woman: The Hiketeia (trade paperback)
9. Star Wars: Robot Chicken DVD
10. Fanboys of the Universe t-shirt
11. Metropolis University t-shirt
12. DC Batgirl Barbie
13. Misc. DC swag (I’ll know what it is when it arrives!)
14. Autographed copy of The Mark of Aeacus by Zan Christensen, plus t-shirt
[EDIT]15. Autographed copy of Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman

Thanks for all your input and suggestions! You really helped me focus. Let’s hope we sell a bunch o’ raffle tickets!

Just got confirmation that we’re getting an autographed copy of Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman! If you recall, SIWBI was our first Fanboys of the Universe Book Club selection!

Incidentally, I won’t be announcing our next selection until the first week of September, so there’s still time to grab a copy of Soon I Will Be Invincible, read that sucker and join in the discussion!
