My pictures are crap. I dont have a very good camera.
Some people have moaned about the quality, but Gwen and Jack are sculpted by the same people who did the Who line anyway, Designworks.
Unfortunately they havent tooled them very well though, making them fractionally bigger. To me they are all fine, except Jack who is almost a head taller than the last one (he’s also cross eyed)
But Im quite happy with the other 3, and wouldnt say theyre cheap atall, and its a GRAND effort by one shop owning fan to have managed to commission these and get them produced. I think that acheivement in itself makes them worth it
Oh crap I still havent took any pictures, I forgot.
I am the bearer of bad news though. It appears that Character is ‘resting’ the Doctor Who lines until the summer of 2010 when the line will be completey relaunched and rebranded for the Eleventh Doctor.
So this means short of the current Gelth and Vespiform BAF waves, the men of steel Cybermen wave and the ‘Time Squad’ figures, thats yer lot for over a year.
More bad news is that it seems the promised Classics wave 2 is still not on the cards, though no word has been mentioned of them being ‘cancelled’ but we probably won’t see them for well over a year when Britain goes Who mad again.
The weirdest thing about this is the business logic.. The classics wave 1 has apparently done so well that Character have completely sold out. But not only are they not going ahead with wave 2, apparently they are not even ordering another run on wave 1, which has been a steady seller for six months and still seem to outsell any new series product.
The ray of light on the horizon is that the first and second Doctors are being offered as SDCC exclusives, and from Forbidden Planet International in the UK.
Fingers crossed that Character *might* surprise us with some new product between now and NEXT summer, but at the moment it is seeming unlikely.
I wonder how much power BBC Wales has after the stuff gets licensed. Gary Russell, from what he’s said at the conventions, is the one who signs off on all the licenses, and knowing him and his love of action figures, he’d sign off on any and all of them, particularly classic series stuff. But could people higher up the food chain be asking him to ask the toymakers to hold off until 2010?
Its all marketing..
I’d noticed a slow down in sales since series 4 figures started to show up at the higher price point, while all the earlier ones were at £2.99, and series 4 were £7.99.. its got to effect sales negatively.
The classics though… seemed to fly off the shelves. Personally I think its crazy that Character have called a stop to them, even if it’s only temporary. But I guess their plan is they want to come back with a BIG bang in 2010, and if they just potter on as they are, the line could fall right out of popularity. I can see where they are coming from, but it’s very annoying especially for classic who collectors waiting for Jon Pertwee and the other two Doctors.
I collect most of these figures and I’m well disappointed that the classics have been shelved. \though the Patrick Troughton and Cyberman and the William Hartnell with Dalek are still coming out here in the UK in July in both color and black nd white versions. Only from Forbidden Planet though.
And if you pre ordered them from Forbidden Planet International, keep an eye on your credit card, because it seems FPI customers have been the victim of credit card fraud (including me - had to cancel my card I had all my adult life)
Some good news though, rumours are bubbling up that the classics are very much not cancelled, and atleast one box set will be coming out very soon. These rumours seem to have been confirmed by people ‘in the know’ aswell
I watched the video on YouTube of Havoc opening his Doctor… tres amusing. I’ve got a few figures, and that’s it… most of mine are the very first issues, still mint carded and in a box, but there’s a Doctor and a TARDIS on my desk at work…
