Typically mashups are very hit or miss for me. But DJ Earworm is always able to combine songs in a way that sounds completely natural, and never fails to amaze me. His annual “United State of Pop” tracks, in which he mashes together Billboard Magazine’s Top 25 songs of the year, are always among the most impressive. He’s just released the 2010 edition, and while I don’t instantly love it as much as I did last year’s, it’s still well worth a listen.

I’m really not loving this year’s version.  It may be because so much of it is based around Katy Perry and Ke$ha, two “artists” I dislike in almost every conceivable way.  But the mash-up itself is very scattershot and doesn’t have a good, solid foundation.  It’s based on a handful of songs, with the rest thrown in to make sure he hits all 25.  Last year’s was miles and away better.

the 2010 version is alright, 2009 is definitely better but if you go look for djearworm’s summer jam 2010 mix, it’s all sorts of awesome.
