Full disclosure i have no patience and i’m a big cheater so i’ve been watching ahead of what BBCA shows of Doctor Who. I love this show and while i’m still not that happy with the 11th Doctor i NEED to find someone to talk to about the show. Is anyone else doing the same? I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone so i don’t want to post in the main Doctor who thread.
The last episode I saw was ‘Cold Blood’ and i’ll be watching ‘Vincent and The Doctor’ tonight. How about you guys? What do you guys think about what’s going on?
This season has been a little odd for me. I like the new Doctor, and I’m intrigued that he’s so easily annoyed/angered by everything. Where did that come from? Residual anger from #10?
The last time we had a regeneration, we at least had the previous companion (Rose) to help us get used to the new guy. We have a new Doctor and a new companion, so perhaps it’s taking me a bit longer to get to know them and feel comfortable.
Even though we’ve been to a couple of planets so far, for some reason the scope of this season feels smaller to me. Maybe I need to do a marathon and watch all the episodes again.
I’m watching the episodes on BBC America, so I only just saw “Amy’s Choice,” which was very interesting to watch again after you know the twist. The only thing that bugs me about BBC America is all the commercials, plus the stuff they edit out of the show! It’s painful knowing I’m missing stuff from each and every show.
I’ll gather up the UK boys (and anyone else interested) and we’ll do another Who podcast soon.

Chance the Podcast sounds great! i can’t wait to hear it as for this season of the Doctor i totally agree it has been kind of awkward. I like the character but for some reason Matt Smith bothers me i think his development of the doctor has been one note at best he goes excited to angry to angry to more angry to self-righteous far too much. He’s all sacrifice for the greater cause and what not. He reminds me more of 9th Doctor than the 10th somewhat bitter and always kind of a jerk.
I’m enjoying Miss Pond more than i thought i would but again the character seems derivative and simple, however i don’t think it’s so much Karen as the writing. Whenever i watch the show i find myself comparing her to Rose which makes sense cause from what i can tell she’s most peoples favorite companion, personal she’s second only to the incredibly awesome Donna Noble but i digress, so why not try and repeat the winning formula? That’s not to say i don’t like her but it’s definitely someone i’ve seen already.
But that’s just my two cents if anything i’m enjoying the show more than the character development the storylines are all very interesting and i can’t wait to find out more about the crack in the wall!
I have my suspicions and i’m already forming theories but they’re keeping the mystery so elusive it’s kind of hard to figure out. Where’s our Bad Wolf warnings? hahaha
D’you know, getting a Police Box to land in the right place and time is bloody hard work!
I’ve been loving #11 since his first line of “Can I have an apple?” and it’s not let up since there. Loved the Angels, don’t love the new Daleks very much, River Song is brilliant, and I’ll stop there because I don’t know how far you are along in the States. Love the new TARDIS (I’ve got a new one too, I’ll post a piccy later!)
I’ll avoid talking about Amy in her all consuming shining crack….
I’m liking the show okay, but I agree it’s been way too Earth bound, and it doesn’t look like thats going to change. He’s not Pertwee. He’s not confined to Earth for budgeting reasons
As this season is coming to an end I’m having a bit of a ‘this is it?’ sort of feeling. Its felt like there should have been more. But I’m not sure if thats a ‘keep them wanting more’ type feeling or if Im feeling disapointed that the series has been made of up of a lot of admittedly very good, but not absolutely brilliant filler episodes.
The Lodger was a fun episode, but still felt like a filler. I cant say much about that one for spoilers but after it was revealed who or what the villain was, I was really hoping for a better explaination and maybe a big reveal of the return of an old character but we didnt get that and just left me wondering what the point of it was.
It seems rather obvious by now what’s involved in creating ‘the crack’ but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see if that was a red herring or not.
Classic Who was also set on Earth far more often than people remember. It needs Earth as the predominant destination to re-ground Amy and gives the intended audience a grounding point as well.
Re Ground Amy? :D she’s been on another planet how many times? Once? And one time on a spaceship ‘planet’ ? Considering they have a machine that can travel time AND space we havent seen too many space adventures this time and there havent really been too many cool villains either. The Silurians were cool, but I still found them a bit ‘wrong’ Shame they didnt have masks similar to the old versions. That may have been a little nod to them being an evolved species, instead they just look like another race entirely (I did like them though)
Im not complaining, Ive enjoyed the series, and I’m looking forward to the finale, but I havent been blown away with it.

I’m absolutely itching for the new toys though
I have to agree with… well everyone, especially Havoc. It seems like there have been far too many fillers with the big bad held back in the shadows and only ‘ominous’ warnings at the end of the episode.
The introduction of River Song is leading me to the conclusion that she just might be the companion for next season, that is if Amy Pond doesn’t return.
As for Earth being ever present I’m kind of in the gray about it. I like the episodes set in future earth or past earth but I’m definitely in the agreement that the outer space/other world presence is definitely missing. I love the past but i REALLY love the future bits all the great tech and cool spaceships etc.
In conclusion, hahaha, i’m very much enjoying this season but not as in love with it as i’ve been with any of the 10th Doctors or even the 9th’s. But still can’t wait for the final episode i love when all the things come together.
Being the cheat i am already at the end of the season Havoc are you not psyched? Was it what you were thinking? I got half of it right and i’m so anxious about well EVERYTHING i can’t wait to see how they tie everything together it’s honestly my favorite part of any show with this storyline to see all the little past bits come together in this awesome climax. I’m honestly jumping up and down in anticipation of Saturday.

I felt the same way watching The Lodger… buuuut after watching the finale (i’m a big cheater too) I had to rethink my disappointment. I think it was more set-up than filler.
Stunning finale. Jaw-droppingly mind-bogglingly eye-poppingly buttock-clenchingly amazing. And if you think this season felt like “filler”, then I’m happy to take what Who’s offering as filler any day over any other programme on the box.

Well - SPOILERS for those who havent seen it!

I figured the crack was caused by the exploding Tardis. I still don’t get how that relates to the one from The Lodger though. I assumed that was another Tardis, on auto pilot.. I guess because its ownder doesn’t exist anymore. I was hoping we’d see the Meddling Monk this season. Rumours Patrick Stewart was going to play him, I thought may have explained why he and James clashed at an award ceremony recently.
I thought the finale worked very well without being TOO much of a reset.. It seemed even though Amy had supposedly never lived those adventures, she was still aware of them, and atleast it didnt give her a twee writing out that I was concerned about.
One thing I’d like to know, what happened to Nestine Rory? He seemed to just be forgotten about.
Overall, I did love the series. It was great. It just left me feeling a little wanting. But, I think thats also a good thing. Leave the audience wanting more and that what we’ve just seen was not enough.
The Silurians episodes would have been my faves if they’d looked a bit more like the origionals. There’s a design in this weeks DWA showing the origional updated design which was scrapped because they wanted more facial movement *sigh* Id have much preffered the more reptilian creatures than the evolved humanoids we got, but never mind.
So in summing up, I’d still give it 9 out of 10. I have no worries about Matt as the doc, or Amy, I’d have just liked to have seen some more adventures in space and time than the 21st century UK stories.
Oh, and another thing of note. There’s no ‘Gay agenda’ in this season since losing RTD. Gay people do not exist in 11’s universe. we all fell into the crack
I heard a different rumor about someone coming back which made The Lodger make more sense… particularly after all the little bits and bobs that seemed pointless came back in the finale.
Spoileeeeer maybe. it is just a rumor…

The Rani.
I hadnt heard that one this time. The Rani had been rumoured a couple of seasons ago. There was even a rumour Joan Collins was going to play her, which would have been hilarious Then when Michelle Collins was cast for season 3 the rumours started buzzing again that she was a regenerated Rani, which made the episode she actually appeared in rather a disapointment. Hopefully Justin Lee Collins isnt the next to be rumoured for the part
Patrick as the Monk was revealed in newspapers and tv mags as if it was definately happening, so I kept waiting for him to show and he never did.
