This is getting weirder and weirder. Last week, it was announced that Neil Patrick Harris had joined the cast of the upcoming Smurfs feature film, as a human character. Now, there’s more casting news.

Alan Cumming will voice a character called “Gutsy Smurf.” Maybe similar to Hefty?
George Lopez will voice Grouchy Smurf.
Singer Katy Perry will voice Smurfette, for some odd reason. I guess since Tiffany was such a success at voicing Judy Jetson a few years ago.
And Jonathan Winters, who I could have sworn, you know, died, is actually alive and voicing Papa Smurf.

This definitely feels like a made for TV movie, I think.

Wow. I love NPH, but this sounds worse than either Alvin & The Chipmunks film.

TV movie is being generous.  Straight-to-DVD rental is more like it.  It’s the best cast a slashed-and-burned budget will buy.  I love Alan Cumming, but he’s kind of a whore with his roles.
