For instance, I just read Driven by Lemons, by Joshua Cotter (Skyscrapers of the Midwest) and thought it was fantastic. Anybody out there slumming it with me in the side aisles?
Here’s where I have to confess a bit of ignorance:
I know that King has moved a bit into comics with the Marvel tie-ins, and that he will be writing his first original series for Vertigo soon. And I know that he has a novel out now called Under the Dome, which I haven’t read (I prefer pre-rehab King). But I don’t know if there’s a Dome-related comic tie-in and I am confused by my own ignorance of the subject, or if my use of “books” in the subject line was confusing to you (I meant “comic books,” as this is the comics forum.) So, uhm… either:
Sorry I didn’t recognize the book or author.
From what I understand it is pre-rehab as it was written years ago and put away. He rediscovered the book and updated it. As for a comic I don’t really know. I believe that the Gunslinger serires are supposed to come out, if it isn’t already.
I’m reading Unwritten, which isn’t a superhero book, but is still a fantasy book. I picked up the first issue of NOLA a couple of weeks ago and might keep reading that. Also, in preparation for our feature on Justin Hall, I read all of his True Travel Tales books, which are really great. I still pick up a few Star Wars titles, as well as the Muppets, though I much prefer the issues centered around the show instead of the fairytale retellings.
I guess the majority of what I read are superhero comics. I’ll have to examine that.

I’m pretty impressed with the Boom! Studios books, actually (the bizarre and unnecessary Electric Sheep “adaptation” aside). The Muppet books actually feel right, and that surprised me. And the price drop (from $8 to $3) for the Uncle Scrooge and Disney universe books has me finally willing to buy them. It bums me out a bit that Marvel will no doubt end up with all the Disney-owned titles when that’s legally possible.
I haven’t started The Unwritten yet, though I have all the issues in my “to read” box. I’m very into this min-renaissance Vertigo has had these last two years.
FABLES and WALKING DEAD are awesome!!!!
I cant wait to see what unfolds with Mr.Dark in Fables…and the Book Burner in Jack of Fables ^^!!!!
Only been reading Walking Dead from library, but I should request they order ones that came out
The Great Ten are called superfunctionaries…so they dont count as superheroes GREAT SERIES
A few are rather short, but others go into great detail with only a few pages
Maybe they can have their own team comic instead of individual stories about them later, though a great introduciton for them to the public A chinese JLA ^^
oooh…anyone else here about any new information about Mother of Champions’ children? All we got was “number 4” (superstrength, based off a Chinese story)
how bout alan moore’s lost girls? I got it for xmas and loooved it. love the analogy of the fantasy worlds as children’s defense mechanisms to being exposed to sex too soon.
I just picked up and read Sweet Tooth Vol. 1 - Out of the Woods and now I’m hooked. It was described as Bambi meets Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and that description was pretty apt. It’s just the right amount of weird.
Can’t wait to get caught up on the current issues.
I’m about halfway through “The Strain” by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It’s the first book in a trilogy (the second comes out next month), and it’s a fun take on vampires…and not the sparkly kind, either. Here’s the website for the books. One of the more interesting aspects is that it describes what people go through when they first turn into vampires. I recommend it for a light summer read.
