I have a guilty pleasure confession. I watch Dante’s Cove. If you don’t know, Dante’s Cove is a gay gothic soap on Here TV. There are witches, hot naked guys, warlocks, hot naked guys, magic…did I mention hot naked guys? Completely campy and over-the-top, it’s the Olympics of bad acting, and Tracy Scoggins runs away with the gold. But I have warm feelings for her, since she was in Dynasty II: The Colbys way back in the day.

I’m just catching up on Season 2 now, but Season 3 is well under way.

I just watched the episode where Kye is working out, naked of course, and Bro walks in on him. Kye says, “You into pumping?” I laughed out loud.

And yes, there are characters named Kye and Bro in this show.

It is the best and worst show on television.

You know, I like trash.  I like hot guys.  I really like hot naked guys.  But even I can’t get behind Dante’s Cove or The Lair.  There comes a point where you just think “I just might as well watch porn.  After all, the acting’s better.”

I agree with that to a point. Its Dark Shadows, except gay, and with lots of softcore man on man sex.. But Ive watched season 1 and 2, AND the Lair (not seen season 3 yet) but I couldn’t begin to tell anyone what the storyline was other than theres this dude, who’s a vampire and his wife catches him shagging another bloke.. then they go off together and buy a hotel that for mysterious unknown reasons seems to become a completely different building and surroundings in the second season, and then they all shag again LOL

But, I should try watching it again and fast forward through the sex so as not to forget what the storyline was.. Is that possible?

We don’t get gay channels here.  The closest we got was Showtime when Queer as Folk was on.

So, do they go full frontal or no? hehe.

The leads only show ass. But the secondary actors go full frontal. So it makes for a humorous combination where in one scene a guy will get out of the pool, full frontal, strut around and then in the next scene two guys will have sex and twist and contort and walk backwards and sideways to avoid the frontal shot. It gives the whole show its B-movie charm.

Ohhhh. Is that why I can’t explain the plot either? They throw in the naked guys to make me stop trying to figure out what the hell is going on?

Is Bro a vampire? I haven’t seen any of Season 3 yet, so maybe I’m behind on important plot developments.

ok I have direct tv and before logo network came on there was a pay piey view gay channel you could pay by day or month. So is this show exclusive to an area,or part of logo? They raised the prices so I downgraded packages, but sounds like I might like the show<or maybe the nudity>!

To get Logo on DirecTV, you have to upgrade your package to DirecTV Plus.  Logo isn’t part of the basic package.

But Dante’s Cove isn’t on Logo.  It’s part of hereTV, which is a separate gay network that isn’t available on DirecTV at all.  You have to have cable or a different dish provider.  The first two seasons are available on DVD, though.

Here! TV preceded Logo by just a few weeks. Then DirecTV dropped Here! and kept Logo. Right now, it seems that Here! programming is only available on cable via their OnDemand services. Or you can watch programming online. There’s a list of options here.

Then, there’s always DVDs.

This is actually a guilty pleasure of mine too. I just got season 3 on dvd and watched the first 2 episodes. It just sucks that there’s only like 4-5 episodes a season. I know the plot is cheesy and the sex is soft porn, but damn, it’s hot. It really makes me wanna live on the beach. Plus some of it is so funny!

Ive ordered season 3, and I should watch 1 and 2 back to catch up (if I can focus..) before watching it.
Maybe I’ll watch it with the other half over the summer hols, might get him in the mood LOL

Also recently picked up vol 1 and 2 of Dark Shadows. Its shocking how many episodes there are! Its one of those shows it would take years to try and watch again.. or for the first time in my case, as I only saw coloured episodes on the sci fi channel, Im not sure if they ever showed the earlier black and white episodes here in the UK.

Wasn’t there another Dark Shadows show that came out back in the 90’s? I seem to remember something like that cause my mother would watch it. Or is this the same show?

That was a remake. It lasted 12 or 13 episodes and was pretty awful. Its repeated constantly on the Horror Channel over here.
One point of interest though was that it had Tommy from 3rd Rock in it.

Just watched the first episode of Season 3 and…what the hell? It’s six months later. Okay, I get that. But during those six months, there was also a tsunami that wiped out Dante’s Cove and killed a lead character, but then the bar adjacent to the hotel was rebuilt, but not the hotel? And suddenly Reichen is there, too?

Did I miss something in between Season 2 and 3? Or are they really leaving all this action and plot offscreen?

Slight Spoilers Below:

That’s what I love about this series (apart from the hot male flesh). The writing and acting are (in most cases) bad on purpose. After listening to the episode commentaries, you really get the feel that everyone is in on the joke. They know it’s over-the-top, bad, cheesy camp and don’t apologize for it.

The production sites for each of the three seasons was different, which is why the town of Dante’s Cove constantly looks different. Tracy Scoggins has a quick line in season 2 about “how much a fresh coat of paint can do”, referencing the new look to the Hotel Dante. Then the tsunami excuse was used for season 3 to not only explain the locations, but also move the story along further.

I totally went into fanboy geek mode everytime Tracy said “tsunami”, too. It brought back fond memories of her time as Cat Grant on Lois & Clark.

The actress that played Van was unavailable and they decided not to recast. That’s why she is written out so quickly. Odd, since they had already recast the roles of Adam and Michelle.

Speaking of Adam…YUMMY! I find the scenes between him and Ambrosius to be particularly hot, which is odd as the actor playing Bro is the one I find least attractive.

Chance had a question earlier about Bro being a vampire. I believe you misunderstood a previous poster. Bro, Grace, Kevin and the rest of the magic users are witches/warlocks of Tresum. The vampires come in on DC’s sister show, The Lair. So far, there have only been slight allusions between each other.

As you can tell, Dante’s Cove is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I’ll take shirtless Charlie David any day!

Welcome, Hardbody! I hope you know this means you’re going to have to take part in the inevitable Dante’s Cove podcast.

So Van gets all the power of the Libra Solstice and then gets washed away by the tsunami? I thought for sure she’d be the new queen witch of the town. I do love Tracy Scoggins and her crazy accent. It’s nice that she’s letting all the gay and lesbian couples in town stay at her place.

I have the first season DVD, but haven’t listened to any commentaries. I’ll do that. The rest of the series I’ve been catching on the OnDemand service on cable.

It’s so terrible…and I can’t stop watching.
