just watched lady gaga and adam lambert’s performances.

lady gaga killed it per usual.

i read lots of complaints about adam’s performance saying it was too over the top… has anyoone heard the song before? did no one watch idol last season?  am i the only one who thought it was hot? and way to go for turning a trip into a roll!

I didn’t like the song or his singing, but the performance itself was fine IMO.  So many gay guys around the net are fuming about this for some reason, saying that he was too stereotypical and ‘making gays look bad.’  Seriously?  Let the guy have fun and be himself.

It’s odd that last week’s Adam Lambert story was about how he and his management didn’t want him to appear “too gay” or get labeled as a gay performer. This week, it’s this.

At least he’s getting lots of press.

GaGa was fantastic, as always.  That’s how you be an artist AND a provocateur at once, Adam.

Adam Lambert was just…tedious and boring.  He was obviously going for shock value and was trying way, WAY too hard.  The dancers looked bored.  It cost him a little, too.  I wrote at length about it on my blog but the gist of it is he’s going to have to do a lot more than some tired S&M;-lite stuff and an impromptu emo make-out session to make that mediocre debut album of his seem cool.

I thought Bad Romance was a little rough, but Speechless was frickin’ amazing.  *smashes bottle on keyboard*  LOL

It did seem somewhat desperate.  I thought it was funny.  raspberry

I forgot all about “Bad Romance” about half-way through “Speechless.”

As for Adam, I’m pretty sure that “funny” was NOT what he was aiming for.  It’s like the end of the “Cold Hearted” video (which Adam obviously took inspiration from) where it ends with the dancers laughing after Paula’s told that her number was “very nice.”

i guess i am in the minority (after visiting other sites).  i like the performance, greatest performance ever? no, but i was def entertained.  i like the new video too.

have been listening to the album and i enjoy it as well it’s a ride and for me, i am left entertained and wanting to go again. it is nice to listen to an album that is a guy singing about another (or multiple) guys… and it’s music i like.

there’s been a lot of drama around him and i do think the gay community has not been kind (yes, i know there was the out article, but it seems there were agendas on both sides so it should sorta even itself out).  he’s wasn’t gay enough on idol, now he’s too gay and giving us a bad image.  for me i say shove it in the country’s face, i’m all for more gay action on tv.

adam was picked up by the early show after gma decided not to have him perform after the “controversy”

http://www.afterelton.com/blog/edkennedy/adam-cbs-early

love that they blurred out the male on male kiss but not the britney/madonna one…

he sounded much better (he makes a comment how he wish he would have sung better at the amas)

and i totally agree with him, he isn’t a babysitter.  parents have gotten completely out of control wanting everyone to do their parenting for them.

While I still think Adam’s performance and the song itself are still only OK, I have a lot more respect for Adam after that interview.  He was poised, confident, and sure of himself the whole time.  It was clear that the interviewer was trying for a “gotcha” soundbite but he wasn’t going to give it to her.  Hr makes very valid points about the other acts, and the more this gets played out in the media, the more and more the homophobia comes to the forefront.  I read one writer who compared Adam to Elvis, who got similar treatment from his early televised appearances.  I’m not willing to make that comparison, but it makes you think.

My gawd, that interviewer is so annoying.  Bravo Adam!  Well said.

Even Barbara Walters thinks the whole thing is completely absurd.  To quote Joy Behar: “Everyone loves a lesbian kiss.  It’s when two guys kiss that they get upset.”

What’s Elisabeth’s claim to fame?  Oh, right, she lost a season of Survivor, married a football player, and had a bunch of kids.

Anyone have any reaction to Janet Jackson?  I had the fortune of seeing her on The Velvet Rope Tour.  I was only a semi-fan.  I loved her video and the song “If” but I wasn’t a super fan.  I was actually more interested in seeing her opening act, a VERY early *NSYNC (they’d only had two singles out at that point).  But she was AMAZING!  The dancing was just phenomenal and she actually sang the entire show.  I definitely respected her a lot more after seeing her live, but like most, kind of forgot about her after that.  I saw clips of her last tour and was shocked at how LOUSY I thought it looked.  (Mostly the horrific costumes… no one looks good squeezed into a yellow spandex catsuit, Janet.  NO ONE!)  But with all the press she’s been doing for her new Greatest Hits collection, and the fact that they were using her AMA performance as a lure in the commercials for the show, I figured this would be a killer performance and was seriously let down.

Christina Aguilera did a medley of like seven of her songs for an awards show last year or so and it worked so much better.  Janet’s songs seemed randomly picked and she only did like five.  I didn’t like her Anakin Skywalker Meets Hammer Pants costume.  HER dancing seemed labored and nowhere near as precise and sharp as it used to be.  And the audience was just miserable.  Every time they cut to the other artists in the crowd, they seemed lost and bored.  She ended with “Together Again” and asked the crowd to sing along with her, but clearly most of them didn’t seem to even know what song she was singing.  I felt really bad FOR her, to be honest.  As much as I grew to hate Britney Spears, I was glad she made a decent comeback.  Janet, to me, is a legendary performer (I always liked her better than Michael!) who I never “hated” just grew disinterested in, so I was really looking for more, but this performance was lackluster and didn’t have the energy and fire she used to have.

I think Janet’s performance got lost in the “GaGa smashes a whiskey bottle”/“OMG!  Adam Lambert is gay!” hoopla.  I used to be a big Janet fan.  I still have a poster in my closet that I had back during the janet. era.  But I kind of lost interest after that.  I might end up picking up her new best-of collection because it has so many classic dance tracks on it.

Love my girl, but have to say that her 2008 AMA medley was a bit of a mess after Beautiful and Keeps Gettin’ Better.  She’s coming back hard in 2010 though. raspberry

As for Janet, I’ve never really been a big fan of hers.  Don’t pay much attention.  Black Cat is the only song of hers that I like a lot.
