If you haven’t been watching Smallville lately, your missing something super.

Last season saw the departure of Lana from Clark’s life while Lois continued to make sparks. Lex disappeared after a fight with Clark in the Fortress. Luthorcorp is now run by the fabulously evil Tess Mercer. Tess is both obsessed with finding Lex and learning the answers to Lex’s interest in Clark. At the end of Season 8 we find out she has possession of an orb apparently of Kryptonian origin.

Speaking of Kryptonian origins, Davis Bloom is revealed to be an anti-Clark of sorts the will bring about Doomsday.

And if you want heroes- season 8 saw guest appearances by Saturn Girl Lightening Lad and Cosmic Boy, Dan Turpin, Maxima, Green Arrow’s team with Impulse and Black Canary.

Some continuity clean-up, Chloe’s beloved Jimmy is in fact Henry James Olsen and not the James Bartholomew Olsen we know from the comics.

During Season 8 Clark is operating as a hero know as “the red/blue blur” thanks to a picture printed in the Daily Planet, at the end of last Season Clark has decided to embrace his destiny as a hero but has decided to do so full time telling Chloe “Clark Kent is dead”

Season 9 starts up from there tonight (Friday) at 8pm

I caught the season premiere. I didn’t get to see all of season 8, so thanks for the recap. It’s amazing that, even after all these years, it’s still such a compelling story. And who doesn’t love hearing “Kneel before Zod!” Lois has definitely grown on me, and Chloe asking Clark to save Jimmy was heartbreaking.

I’m on board for the season, if I can stay current.

Yeah, this was a decent episode. I’ll still stick it out for the rest of the season, but I think it’s more because I’ve already put in 8 years into, I can’t give up now.

He’s a big boy now. He’s almost 40.

Yay! Shirtless Oliver! Yum.

I know! I love the fact that they have Ollie shirtless in the credits. I guess it’s to throw us a bone after they show Lois in her bikini.

Tom Welling is 32. I guess in gay years that’s almost 40 :p
I remember his age because he’s 10 year’s older than Clark ( started in 2001 playing 14 at 24).
He’s looking good though, makes me think of Catwoman seeing Nightwing in the cartoon and saying “He’s a MAN-wonder now”

Back to the episode, I loved how cocky Oliver was when the girl yelled “Don’t call or email” and he says “I never do”. Bastard! But kinda hot.

And yes I squee like a girl when Lois and The Blur talk on the phone. I love they have their own phonebooth.

Metallo is interesting, the way they have him revenge driven and possibly and experiment by the Kryptonians. I swear that fight scene, BAG’s jeans were just slipping so low…

And the Kryptonians, I think are Kandorian so I wonder if Kara will be back. She left in search of them during season 8.

Poor Ollie. I think he’d feel better if he took his shirt off again. The scene near the end between him and Clark was very sweet. It kind of mirrored the scene between Conner and Tim in the comics right now.

The folks at Smallville must be reading our comments, because last night’s episode was all-Oliver all-the-time. Wow, how many long, lingering close-ups on his eyes were there. Like, a thousand.

I’m really enjoying the season so far, and not just because of Oliver in green leather pants. I really need to go back and catch up on the episodes I missed last season.

The character of Oliver Queen brings some much need sexuality into the series, even if the character has been suffering from the “Smallville syndrome” this season.
  It’s almost as if Chris Claremont is ghost writing the series, the way the characters are riddled with guilt and self doubt. Can’t anyone really cut loose and enjoy themselves??
  I prefer the scene with Tess finding Oliver naked in her bed..that was memorable!!

I thought Ollie shirtless cage-fighting this season was pretty memorable

Maybe I’m just a sucker for emotionally tortured guys but I think they handled Ollie losing control after all that happened last season without going overboard. Looked like Toyman may feature in an upcoming story (since he has the mechanical heart) so they had to acknowledge his beef with Oliver. And they needed to reason out how Green Arrow can still be a hero since he killed Lex. I think tonights episode was a great way to put it all to rest (loved the ending with Clark and Ollie looking out over Metropolis).

And I’m glad Chloe’s on our side- cause if she really wants in your head, she’s getting in.

I gotta agree with Chance, Justin Hartley has the most expressive eyes. Not that Tom’s puppy dog eyes aren’t doing it for me but Justin really owned his episode.

Well, the Wonder Twins’ appearance was brief, but I think they have potential. And I like how Chloe is becoming increasingly controlling. There’s definitely a Dark Willow vibe developing.

With no Oliver this episode, it was up to Clark to take his shirt off. I’m not complaining.

Powers activate!

Yeah, Chloe is really throwing what power she has around. She seems to have potential to go down either path. They’ve never actually added her to the comics despite long rumors that they might. And the Legion hadn’t heard of her- but it could be because she stays in the shadows. Kind of their version of Oracle.

The Twins were cute, I was impressed that the Wonder Twins powers actually seemed useful. :p I like that they were fans of The Blur.
Kind of makes me wish Smallville and Supernatural were still the same day. Could have been a fanboy duo.

And yes, Tom’s still hot.

Here’s some Smallville news. Seems both Annette O’Toole and Michael McKean are returning to Smallville before the season ends!

It will be nice to have Martha Kent back. I hope they make her a lesbian.

I remember being on a fansite back when Maggie Sawyer was going to be on and some poster wondering if she would flirt with Martha
More likely they’d have her marry Perry White since it’s her actual husband.
She’s a senator in Washington last we saw- maybe it’s just government secrets.
