I accidentally caught the season premiere of Supernatural. I watched the pilot a few years ago…and then this season five opener. So I’ve missed some stuff. The boys are battling angels and demons and the devil himself? Okay. So, I may need to spend some time on Wikipedia to catch up with what’s been going on the past four seasons.

Anything major I should know?

I did find it funny when the boys met their biggest fan, who’s been writing slash fiction about them. Very funny. And I’m glad they didn’t make the fan some creepy guy.

I’ve never seen the show, but friends who have tell me all about the fact how the slash fiction essentially writes itself.  That’s almost made me curious to watch.  Almost.

Yeah, there was a really funny episode last season where Dean and Sam find out they are the subject of a series of books called “Supernatural”. Sam is the one who finds out it has a cult following on the internet including slash fiction fans, which he then has to explain to Dean. :p As you may have heard in the recap, the books are actually prophesies. “It’s all real” “I knew it!”

Wiki is great, they also do a “story so far” each episode in case specific show mythology is needed.

In my experienced there is probably as many or more slash/Yaoi fans who are girls as gay guys.

I’ve been watching since Season 3. 3rd season gradually introduced most of the Last Days mythology with the first body for Ruby and Sam trying to get dean out of a deal he made to save Sam’s life. They did a combo of demon stories and hunting other supernatural entities.
4th season it was mostly demons breaking the 66 seals that hold back Lucifer and angels joining Dean and Sam (on the angels own terms) leading into this season.

I’m a huge fan of the show, and have been since season one. Each season is consistently better than the last, and last season was amazing. I’m really enjoying this season, and they’re taking some interesting twists and turns. This will most likely be the last season, since the creator said he mapped out a 5 season story arc.
On a semi-related note, I bought the RPG core book that’s based on this TV show, and it looks like an interesting system. It uses a version of the Cortex System. Now I’m just learning it and seeing if anyone is interested in gaming with me.

I didn’t get into Supernatural until recently and now it is one of my favourite shows on television.  I had friends who watched it who said how great it was but I was like “meh. that’s been done to death.” Then I went and watched the first four seasons ... episode after episode…for a solid week….non-stop.

I can honestly say that this show (and my love for the brotherly-but-kind-of-hot love affair between the lead actors) is my ultimate fan-boy moment in life these days.  Not only is the writing clever (with lots of meta-textual moments such as those mentioned involving ‘wincest’) but it is funny, suspenseful, fantasy-filled and just plain sexy.  What the hell else can I ask for in a TV show?

I must admit that a lot of my love for the show is Jared Padalecki (picture crying fan-girl: “I love him so much! Why doesn’t he love me back?”) who plays the younger brother Sam.  I think Jensen Ackles (the older brother Dean) is quite the cutie too but when Sam looks lovingly at his big brother Dean with his big ol’ sad eyes….oh my.  Their’s has to be one of the best homophilic relationships going since Butch and Sundance.

Sigh. I do recommend the show to anyone who hasn’t seen it.  It seems as if the creator has decided to only do the five seasons so after this year it will likely end.

(And just for my own viewing pleasure here is a picture of my boyfriend, Jared.)

Ohhh. The geeky guys obsessed with Supernatural in this week’s episode were gay. And they saved that as a punchline at the end because…?

Because they know their audience. wink

It’s either rapid fangirls (Becky) or gay guys. Hence the lineup at the convention included “the homoerotic subtext of ‘Supernatural’ “.

At least by saving the “revelation” for the end they weren’t killed off.

I never really got in to Supernatural until last year. Some of my best friends would watch it on Thursday nights and have dinner, and then I started showing up. I got hooked, borrowed my friends DVDs of the first 3 seasons, and that’s all she wrote! I became even more hooked with each episode I watched. My friends and I still have our Supernatural party every thursday, with food and good times! smile Honestly, one of the best TV shows out there right now for me, aside from Glee and Eastwick (Which has been cancelled).

The next new episode of Supernatural isn’t until March 25, but the CW just released a new behind-the-scenes look at “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid,” the zombie episode:

Thanks Chance!

I’ve *really* gotten into Supernatural.  Absolutely adore it.  Bought seasons 1-4 on DVD, and up to date with season 5 as far as y’all have gotten up to in the US.  Not liking the long hiatus.  Having withdrawals.  Timely rescue there fella!

I watched the pilot years ago after all the cinema ads saying ‘scarey just got sexy’ and felt rather let down by the lack of sexiness.
The sexiness obviously only works if you find the brothers hot, and I suppose they just arent my cup of tea.
I guess I was expecting something back then with the levels of sexual stuff True Blood has now and just felt a bit misled. But Im over that now.
I kept recording the episodes, and bought 1-3 box set when I found it dirt cheap, and Im now almost through season 1, which Im liking okay. I’ve seen random episodes and always been entertained so Im going to watch the whole thing through.

Season 2 is much better than season 1, and each season is progressively better. Give it a chance, you won’t be disappointed!

Back on US screens tonight after a 6 week hiatus… bloody Olympics and other rubbish…

Welcome back to my favourite demon hunters, and their rather hot Angel friend…

So- good episode. Not much of advancement but pretty emotional. We know Satan’s horsemen are even coming after those who help the Winchesters.

(Kind of reminded me of Blackest Night, in a good way).
