The Ray Of Light video had a concept, though. It went through a “day in the life of humanity” in 5 minutes. The concept here is really “Colton Ford is super-mega-hot and we’re going to put him in spandex and mesh and then he’ll be naked and oh yeah, he’s in the corner and the spotlight.” Don’t get me wrong, I think Colton Ford is a good singer and is wicked scorching hot, but I do find it kind of sad that he keeps feeling that to market his music, he needs to emphasize his looks over his voice. But since he’s marketing to the gay community, that makes perfect sense.
Still, the cover is decent. His voice is in fine form, but I thought the audio bed was way too muddled and the synths too fat. They obscure everything but the beat and vocal. My favorite version of this song is by Abigail, which is a wildly obscure track, but it has a nice sparseness to it while still being danceable and her vocal has the right amount of ennui and aching in it.
