Is there a Gay race in comic books?

Ok so this is my first time posting here and I’m not sure if this topic has been talked about before but I thought I would bring it up since it’s something that’s been in the back of my mind. Please feel free to redirect me if this has been talked about ad nauseum.

Given the recent spate of excellent news LG-wise in the major comic book publishers DC and Marvel I’m beginning to wonder if there is some kind of “gay race” between the publishers to see who can be the most gay friendly with regards to headliner heroes. DC seemed to initiate the race with a lesbian Batwoman and then follwed by a gay character (Bunker) in the new 52 Teen Titans. Marvel followed up by giving it’s banner-bearer queer Northstar a marriage to his long time partner. And then Alan Scott, the Green Lantern of Earth 2 came out of the emerald closet, to a collective yawn in the media. All this within a few short years and to be honest for someone who has grown up with comic books this seems a bit sudden and well…I suppose the cynic in me can’t just let it be. But what do you guys think? Is there this tacit competition between DC and Marvel to see who can be the most gay-friendly? Or am I just ignorant of the larger historical trend and just barely getting with the program?

Hi guys. I have a fondness for Superman-themed underwear and have been keeping a collection of pics from the internet over on my Tumblr blog. But I thought I would share them here, too, and see if anyone else has any to share.

If this isn’t the correct forum/category, let me know.

Thanks!
Yet another new Marvel game (pen and paper)

This is what, the fourth?

1) FASERIP (TSR)
2) SAGA (also TSR)
3) Marvel Universe (Marvel itself) a.k.a. that one with the stones

and now the current “Marvel Heroic Roleplaying” by Margaret Weis Productions. Any word on this? Not sure if it’s based on her CORTEX system, but one would assume it is as are the rest of the company’s games.

Anyone play the “Breakout” adventure making the rounds at game conventions and game stores? I saw the it went on several times last weekend at DREAMATION 2012, and they’ve got it going on tomorrow in Manhattan’s Compleat Strategist and Sunday at the Twenty Sided Store in Brooklyn.

—-
Tidbit about “the one with the stones”, on Wikipedia it says it was a “heavy seller, with multiple print runs of the basic book” but that Marvel didn’t consider it a success because it didn’t sell as much as their comics, or as well as D&D. It doesn’t say how well it compared to any reasonable industry expectation. Obviously Margaret Weis is IN the industry and has been for some time, so she should have more rational expectations. Not sure if she paid for the license or if Marvel contracted her.

I just started watching the BBC series “Misfits” on Hulu. Fun stuff about a bunch of juvies who are struck by lightning and develop super powers. Anyone else into it? I believe season 3 is airing now (with new eps posted to Hulu on Monday mornings), but I’m only on the first season. Here’s a trailer: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xc0e4j_misfits-trailer_shortfilms

Texting at the Movies: Yes or No

Theater owners are discussing the possibility of allowing texting during movies, to help attract younger movie goers. It’s just an idea at the moment. You can read about the controversy here.

What do you think? Does texting bother you? Or do you wish you could text during a movie without fear of being reprimanded?

Young Justice

Anyone catch the premiere of Young Justice?

I liked the updated anime style, and was at first wondering why they made Aqualad black? But after watching him I think he’s kinda hot! (I probably never thought that in a hundred years I’d ever say that!)

Which begs the question; What are your feelings on changing a characters race? They’ve done it with Nick Fury and now Aqualad (but then again, he is Atlantean(?), and do they even have a delineation when it comes to race/color? Like is there an “asian-looking” Atlantean?, they are a different race after all.)

I’ve never been a huge fan of either, so I personally don’t mind. But I know I would be pissed if all of a sudden they made Storm caucasian.

Looking forward to the next episode!

Mario Lopez Designs Ugly Underwear

If you get a dozen or so emails from online underwear retailers a day, like I do, then you probably got the news that Mario Lopez is endorsing a line of underwear called Rated M. The tagline is “For manful men and their very special guests.”

I thought that was pretty bad, until I actually clicked and saw the underwear. I don’t expect every pair of underwear to be a WonderJock, but I don’t know any guys who are looking for something shapeless and unappealing to help flatten out their package and give them that high-waisted grandpa underwear look that was so popular in the 30s.

Bizarre.

Hopefully, Mario will go back to his sketchpad and come up with some better designs.

Still, Mario in underwear, any underwear, is always a nice sight to behold.

Can anyone help me get caught up with the Marvel Verse?

So i fell off the comic book wagon and I’m trying to catch up and as the saying goes miss a little MISS A WHOLE FUCKING LOT!... or maybe that’s just what i say either way I’m super lost. To be perfectly honest i’m about 3 years behind I’m vaguely acquainted with what’s been brewing over at the MU but, nonetheless, i remain baffled and confused and not just by storylines but also from the giant pot holes that’s created by not reading anything for 3 years.

In the past the TPB was my best friend as was the Marvel site which itemized it so well for any fan with records as far back as half a decade. Unfortunately, their latest streamlining has made it less maneuverable so now i turn to my fellow gay geeks for help. I’m looking to catch up on my favorite titles I left off around early-mid jun 2008 so that was just around the time Secret Invasion was unfolding, The X-Men were in the final leg of Divided We Stand, X-Men: Legacy became the main X-title and so on and so forth.

I’ve been able to find a couple of great lists on Amazon but five TPB or collections for 3-4 yrs just doesn’t seem to be enough. So if anyone can point me to some more in depth lists of TPBs or hardcovers would be great Amazon seems to be the only one i can really find i could go on marvel and try to figure it out but I’m sure there is an easier way.

Thanks in advanced everyone!
