Hi all,

My name is Joe Glass, I’m a new comics writer and my first works will be coming out shortly. In fact, my first, The Pride (http://igg.me/p/37384?a=216477&i=shlk), will be released on November 2nd 2011!

The Pride is a six issue mini-series about an LGBT superhero team aiming to improve representation and challenge stereotypes in a homophobic community. It features a diverse range of voices and characters, and is a totally awesome, kick-ass superhero action adventure to boot.

Written by myself, it features art by new, and extremely talented artist Gavin Mitchell and colors by Kris Carter. It also features covers and back-up stories by an array of amazing artists including Marc Ellerby, Hector Barros, Kris Anka, Cory Smith and many more.

However, we need your help. The comic is on IndieGoGo raising funds to help fund printing, marketing and distribution of the series. The more we can raise, the more we can do with it, and the further we can spread the comic. Hopefully, the money raised will also help us to arrange distribution in the US.

It also works as a handy preordering system, and at this time, the best way of getting your copies if you live outside the UK.

His Name is Rio and He Dances on the Sand

I was watching the “Glitter & Gold” video on YouTube (don’t ask) and noticed Rio’s awesome dance moves. I grabbed a screen cap (see below). There’s a lot going on here, I think. First, Rio looks like he feels alive for the first time in his life. Second, Jem looks like she’s suddenly realized Rio isn’t playing for her team, so she’s trying to make her escape.

Just wondering what happened to FBOTM. It was the best and correct me if I’m wrong but it’s been a while since we’ve had one. I’m guessing everyones schedule is just to full to properly schedule all that goes into a photo shoot. Hope you bring it back eventually. Love the site redesign! Keep up the good work.

Lucas really should just make a Boba Fett series, the guy is a huge fan favorite at conventions as seems to relish it and not be all weird about it.

It’s been a very busy week, folks. September Fanboy of the Month David’s video went viral almost right after it was posted and has now been viewed over 10,000 times. That’s significant because our most popular video so far has only been viewed 1,500 times. David (and FBOTU) were then featured on (WARNING: NSFW) QueerClick, BananaGuide, Fleshbot, ManHuntDaily and a whole host of personal blogs and postings.

If I had known he was going to be so popular, I would have saved him for a 5-week month. Can’t take him back now, so I will just post a few additional shots of him each week, instead of the usual 3 or 4. Also, we have a special new FBOTM feature that will premiere towards the end of the month, and David will be featured in that. Stay tuned!

So, thanks for spreading the word! And since we’ve had a LOT of new people join, please give them your friendliest FBOTU welcome when they post.

Whoa! Check out Christopher Reeve’s sons!

Both Will (17) and Matthew Reeve (29) are involved in the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which raises money for research into spinal cord paralysis.

Will has done some acting and Matthew is a documentary director. The urge must be pretty strong to put Will in a Superboy or Superman costume, but I hope he (and Hollywood) resists. That would feel a little creepy, especially since he looks so much like his father.

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark (Opening in December…Probably)

After delays and numerous rumors of shutdowns and financial problems, Broadway’s new “Spider-Man” musical has announced a new official opening date in December.

The production, directed by Julie Taymor and featuring music by Bono and the Edge, will begin preview performances at the newly renamed Foxwoods Theatre (formerly the Hilton Theatre) on Nov. 14 and will open on Dec. 21.

“Spider-Man” was originally supposed to open in February, but the escalating cost of the musical—which is said to be the most expensive ever on Broadway—caused the production to be pushed back.

Tickets for “Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark” are set to go on sale to the general public in September, but no specific date was given.

Organizers also announced new cast members for the blockbuster production. Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano will play the role of Mary Jane Watson, taking over from Evan Rachel Wood, and Patrick Page will play the Green Goblin, a role that was previously going to be played by Alan Cumming.

Damiano received a Tony nomination last year for her supporting role in the musical “Next to Normal.”

Reeve Carney is still on board to play the lead role of Peter Parker.

The cast is scheduled to begin full rehearsals on Aug. 16.
