not 100% in love with some of the new designs (especially panthro… he’s not quite as hot as he used to be). but bandai is also making a “classics” line of the characters in their original outfits.

Posted on Mattycollector’s forums by Mattel:

Hey all,

With so much going on in term of announcements and movie toys I wanted to try and hit a bunch of FAQs floating around.

1: Swamp Thing is fully articulated. He is not a statue. The articulation is under his skin. It is a new approach we are testing out and so far it is amazing. This is not rubber like Clayface, it is an all new endoskeletal articulation system or EAS. He stands 9” tall and includes a sculpted base (and if you buy him at SDCC - the bonus Un-Men!

2: We’ll get a revised Ghostbuster release calendar posted ASAP.

3: The reason we switched to the new shipping service was 100% to save the cost of shipping. Due to demand, we’re going to look into bringing back UPS and additional services each at a different cost based on that service. But you will have options!

4: If you are in the South Bay area of Southern California, stop by The Comic Bug now through Free Comic Day. We’ll have as many of our SDCC exclusives as we can on display there (still working out which ones can be loaned out and not slow down development!).

5: There is no fifth thing.

6: The MOTU 30th just keeps getting bigger. What was going to be 2 giant huge announcements has now grown to FOUR giant huge announcements. Things are happening we never planned but we’re not ones to say no to opportunity!Look for all the news at our Mattypalooza panel at SDCC!

7: Voltron will also be huge at the show. We will be revealing our new collector line available exclusively here on Mattycollector.com starting in 2012. (and yes a subscription will be available).

8: All of the SDCC items will be available for pre-sale as well as available at the post SDCC sale on Mattycollector.com (including the Polly, Barbie and Hot Wheels items). Prices may be different (very slightly) between the show and online due to taxes in California. Swamp Thing will not include the Un-Men on Mattycollector.com and Marlena will be packed out as a Space Explorer with a unique bio on Mattycollector.com.

9: GREEN LANTERN toy are here! Movie Masters! Basic Figures! Battle Smashers! Galactic Scale! Role Play! And coming soon to Mattycollector.com, the ultimate 12” Green Lantern featuring wireless sound and light and the voice of Ryan Reynolds! But check out your local retailer for all the great GL product hitting stores today!

10: The Polly Pocket POP SDCC set is a one-off for the show (similar to the DC themed Polly set last year) to bring Polly to SDCC. It is not the start of a new line, but hey, if this thing takes off, you never know! It has generated a lot of buzz.

I think that about wraps it up. More coming down the pipe but don’t be alarmed if we’re a little mum on announcements until SDCC. We’ve just got that much good stuff!

As per He-Man.org’s main page:

Starting the Monday after Comic Con, because you demanded it, Mattel will be launching a brand new Collector Website with the latest news, updates, and previews. And the big news: This new site will also be the EXCLUSIVE home of Masters of the Universe Classic action figures with a new character available EACH MONTH starting this fall!

Of course we’ll have more details including the URL name at San Diego Comic Con, but we wanted to make sure to give online toy fans the scoop first. Oh – and to kick off the new online store, we’ll be putting aside a very limited number of each of this year’s SDCC exclusives which will go on sale on the new collector web site at 8:00 am Eastern Standard Time on July 28th.

And… Mattel employee Toyguru clarifies…

Hey,

Clarification time. Seems like our press release caused as many questions as it answered.

The new Mattel collector fan site (URL to be revealed at SDCC) will be the exclusive home of MOTUC figures. They will not be sold at retail. One of the ways we were able to do this new line was by giving it a home on our new fan site’s store. The advantages to doing the line this way are numerous. For starters, we hope it makes it a lot easier for fans to get them. One place, one price, set release dates.

The figures will be available to ship internationally (sadly with the exception of King Grayskull. Because of the electronics involved in his unique packaging, countries outside of North America can not take it through the mail. Just one of those factors in our world no one can control).

BUT: starting later this fall when the first figure premiers, it will be available to ship world wide (no electronics!).

A new figure will premier for purchase on the 15th of every month. How long and how big will the line get? Only time and fan support will tell.

I can tell you we are very committed to this line and seeing it become a success. We want to work with the fans to deliver a highly detailed, fully articulated MOTU toy line with the character selection fan’s demand. And having this new website will be a huge part in achieving that success together.

The site will also sell exclusive product for some of our other collector lines like CARS and DCU. We’ll have more on that as well as more details about MOTU C at San Diego.

Believe me when I say, this year’s Booth will have a huge Masters presence. So much that it may dominate the convention. Why? Cause MOTU kicks ass.

See you in San Diego!

For any of you all out there that are owners of some of the Transformers Classics, Universe, or ROTF/ENERGON/Voyager lines I have to mention the following products. Any of the Transfans out there have probably noticed the rise of the third-party gear that helps to . . . . add bits and pieces that make your Autobots or Decepticons more badass. (Or in some cases just complete . . . No really, Superion needs hands . . . you know so he can pick things up.)

For example . . .

The Classics line managed to put out versions of Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, and Hot Rod . . . But Optimus never had his trailer, Magnus never had his massive exo-armor that would make him not look like an unpainted Hate Plague Optimus. and Hot Rod . . . people seem to forget that he was the leader of the Autobots for some reason, very sad.

Along comes Fan’s Project with their add on’s. And for any of you that are faint of heart, I have to break it to you that they are normally around 60-100 dollars per add on set, due to the fact that they are made in much fewer numbers than the normal shelf runs of the mainstream toys. But the pieces are very well created and can take your transformers to another level. Indeed, one of the things I have noticed about the add on pieces is that the transformers equipped with them look more “anime-ish” as if these really were out of this world robots that have come to our planet to duke it out. Magnus becomes a badass City Commander that you can believe would be one of the worse things that you would every run into if you targeted Autobot City. Optimus gets his trailer/repairbay/roller setup from the old days, and Hot Rod’s add-ons make him into the next generation Autobot leader and give him his own trailer set, with a version of roller.

So if you have the money, and are tired of looking at a naked Ultra Magnus, I highly suggest you look into the Fan’s Project gear. Ultra Magnus would thank you, he’s quite shy when he’s just in his skid plates.

Every year Disney and Bandai of America take the previous year’s Sentai Team show from Japan and adapt it for the American market and release it as what ever flavor of Power Rangers we get.

As 2010 looms closer and the fourth quarter of toy sales Disney/BoA have NOT decided to bring over Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, which to be honest might have been a hard sell anyway. The show is a bit deep in Japanese culture, Kabuki theater, and the roles and legends of the Samurai.
So in essence it’s TOO Japanese for American markets, something that makes me chuckle when I read about it.

But, Power Ranger fans should not be dismayed, 2010 will bring us the show that started it all. That’s right, in 2009 around Christmas some old favorites will show up again. You might remember them . . . Jason, Billy, Trini, Zack, Kimberly, and Tommy. The original Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger will be uncorked from their 1993 time capsule and remastered, and re-released with new toys and a new mission.

http://www.bandai.com/blog/press-release/mighty-morphin

To kick this off there is even a Power Cliffhanger contest for the wee nippers, who can use their
action figures to solve the cliffhanger video that BoA has released on their website. Shot in a Robot Chicken style, the video is cute and boasts a $10,000.00 prize for the tyke that wins the bounty with his Twisted Toyfare Fu.

http://www.bandai.com/powerrangers/videochallenge/

And to keep the current collectors happy, fans can go over to Wizard magazine’s website and vote for the chase figure you want in the next line of Rangers. This chase toy has usually been under the SUPER LEGENDS title and has been a retro figure of some sort from earlier Power Ranger lines. And this one will be no exception, except Wizard and BoA is letting you vote on which figure you would like to have released.

http://www.wizarduniverse.com/031209powerpoll.html

So with all that I am very happily looking forward to the Christmas season and Beyond as
some old favorites of mine are getting a chance to shine again.

I guess there is only one thing left to say,

IT’S MORPHIN’ TIME!

I know the line isn’t easily available in the states (complete reversal from reality for me) but is anyone else collecting them?
I think this has to be the most extensive toyline in british history.
For a line I wasnt expecting to last past a couple of waves there are now figures made of almost all the major players from the show, and more coming all the time (including a build a figure wave - or two - of Classic Who featuring the past doctors and enemies, Sarah Jane adventures and a wave of 4 Torchwood characters in the summer)

Well worth any Doctor Who fans looking into, its a very exciting toyline.
